Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,
Respected Imam,
I pray this message reaches you in the best of health and Iman.
As a humble member of our congregation, I am writing to you with a heartfelt and urgent request regarding this week’s Jummah khutbah. With the season of Hajj upon us, we stand at a crossroads—one that calls for reflection not only on our rituals but on our responsibilities as a Ummah.
We recall how Allah (swt) rebuked the Quraysh—not because they failed to serve the pilgrims with food and water, but because they neglected the greater moral duty of justice and truth. We fear that we, too, may fall into the same trap if we reduce Hajj to a ritual disconnected from the suffering of our brothers and sisters.
We have heard the story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) countless times, but rarely is it connected to the moral courage needed to confront the injustice in Gaza.
We have heard the story of Hajar (RA) time and again, yet it is seldom linked to the struggles of the mothers in Gaza who search through rubble and ruins for their children.
We have performed and heard about the rituals of Jamarat year after year, but too often the stones we throw are not tied to our outrage at the tyrants and armies that bomb children while the world remains silent.
Respected Imam, we ask you, as members of this community: let us not turn Hajj into what the Quraysh made of it, or what many Muslim rulers today have done—ritual without resistance, story without struggle. Let us instead make Hajj the beginning of a new chapter for this Ummah, one rooted in political consciousness, moral courage, and unwavering solidarity with the oppressed.
For your consideration, I am attaching a script of a khutbah titled “From Arafat to Gaza: Reviving the True Meaning of Hajj.” It was written with our current reality in mind—deeply grounded in our Iman and fiercely committed to truth.
We hope you will consider delivering it or using parts of it in this week’s khutbah, so our hearts may awaken and our community may rise to its duty.
JazakAllahu Khairan for your time, your leadership, and your service to the community.
Wassalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,
